Emancipation is the act of being set free from legal, social, or political restrictions or control. It most commonly refers to liberation from slavery or oppression, but it can also describe gaining legal independence, such as when a minor becomes legally independent from their parents. More broadly, emancipation means achieving freedom or autonomy from constraints that limit a person’s rights, choices, or self-determination.
