O. Z. Livaneli is a distinguished Turkish author, musician, and composer known for his work with the London Symphony Orchestra. Detained during the 1971 coup and exiled for eight years, he studied music in Stockholm and lived in Paris and Athens before returning to Turkey in 1984. An advocate for peace, Livaneli co-founded the Turkish-Kurdish Peace Movement and initiated the Campaign Against Violence in Turkey. He was elected to the Turkish Parliament in 2002.
