Yves Bonnefoy (1923-2016) was a celebrated French poet and translator known for his distinctive poetic voice and profound influence on 20th-century literature. Born in Tours and educated at the University of Poitiers and the Sorbonne, Bonnefoy moved to Paris in 1943, where he was shaped by surrealist poets. His debut collection, Du mouvement et de l’immobilité de Douve (1953), marked the beginning of his influential career. Bonnefoy published numerous poetry collections and translations of Shakespeare, Yeats, and Donne and received the Goncourt Prize. He was a professor at the Collège de France and lived in Paris until his death.
