Xu Youyu is a prominent Chinese intellectual and one of the key signatories of Charter 08, the groundbreaking manifesto drafted by Liu Xiaobo advocating for profound political reform in China. Co-editor of In the Shadow of the Rising Dragon with Hua Ze, Xu has been a vocal advocate for human rights and democracy. In 2009, he accepted a human rights prize on behalf of Liu Xiaobo and publicly supported Liu’s Nobel Peace Prize win in 2010. His contributions have made him a notable figure in China’s ongoing discourse on political reform and human rights.
